Most MILS members will have heard by now that the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (CJRS) is to be extended until the end of October 2020 (rather than, as many predicted, the end of September).
The current scheme terms are extended by one month from the end of June 2020 until the end of July 2020. Changes to the scheme will then apply up until the end of October 2020 with the main proposal being that furloughed employees can be brought back part-time and there will be proposals for employers to share some of the cost. Details at present are obviously very light and we are not expecting proper guidance until the end of this month, so watch this space….
Many of you will also now have 1st June in your diaries as the possible date that remaining parts of the retail motor industry might reopen. This is however not certain at present both because of the clear indication that all dates are dependent on the progress of the virus and because we await further guidance on the sectors that will be allowed to open from June onwards.
In preparation for reopening the Government has now published detailed guidance for eight separate sectors on the risk assessments that should take place prior to the reopening and these can now be found on the Government website here.
We will keep you updated as we have further news.
